| PHAN CON PATCHES 1990-2009 |
I joined the Phantom Society in 1988 after picking up a copy of Smoke Trails while
visiting the USAF Museum.
The first, of what would eventually be called 'Phan Con', I attended was '89. It was
held at Wright-Patterson AFB, Dayton. OH. There were no patches available that I
know of. The last one I attended was 2009. That makes 20 years for me! There were
a few Mini Phan Cons, so to speak, that I did not attend. Reason being, I didn't know
about them till after they were over.
Phan Con patches were not available till the '93 event held at the 117 RW, ALANG,
Birmingham, AL. The '90, '91 and '92 patches shown are Farewell patches that were
available from the Units retiring the Phantom. The Phantom Society did attend these
events.
Phan Cons '01 and '03 were cancelled due to World events. The events were planned
and patches were available so I got them. I had my plans made to attend '01 so I took
the trip out there anyway. I like the Southwest. There's some thing mystical about it
that intrigues me. It was quite the experience traveling by air the month after the
events of 9-11! Security was just short of a cavity search!!
